DR GOODWIN WORKS TO IMPROVE SCHOOL...
Dr. Loraine Goodwin has been active as a Trustee on the Madera Unified School Board as an advocate to improve student
and staff health through student obesity monitoring through BMI testing annually along with an enthusiastic physical education
program. She has also been active with MRSA and Cociddiodomycosis education and prevention. She is currently advocating
for an improved asthma policy along with improvement of indoor air quality. "It is impossible for students to learn if
the room air is polluted or the air is too warm or too cold. We also need to ensure the rooms have lighting and an environment
conducive to learning." Loraine Goodwin is also working with President Clinton's Alliance for Healthier Living
to get all of the schools involved with better health choices and the National Alliance of School-Based Health Centers to
put wellness centers and councils into the district system.

Global Witch Hunts
India labeled a group of women witches, marched them through the streets naked and made them eat human feces.
Nigeria
labels some children as witches, tortures them, makes the drink acid and puts acid on their faces and skin. If they don't
die a slow death, many are killed - per news reports.
We must stop this global abuse of women and children

RUN-OFF ELECTION
The people of Afghanistan are now being asked to vote for a second time - and again risk death and injury. There are no assurances
that the second election will have any less fraud than the first election.

VALLEY AIR and PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Help improve valley air by moving closer to your workplace and by using public transportation, where possible. I took the
Amtrak train to Anaheim a few weeks ago. I had to go onto two trains and one bus, but the transfers were easy, the coaches
were clean and quiet, and the ride was better than fighting traffic. The cost was reasonable too. I think Amtrak
has a sale promotion now. If you can take the train, bus or bike - try it.

HELP THE CHILDREN WHO FALL PREY TO MEDIA
"Reality " shows and news media eager for a "great" moment may be harming our children. Jon and Kate are
caught in a divorce and child custody battle. This is always a very difficult time and at times can lead to bodily injury,
if not murder. Unfortunately, the media has this story by the tail and will not let go because they can evoke great emotions
from the family with accusations, photos, money and threats. These are real people in a common situation and the children
are being hurt.
Little Falcon is shown every fifteen minutes on every TV station revealing that his family pulled the
balloon stunt for a TV show. His innocence is used against him and he is photographed repeatedly throwing up during an interview.
We must protect our children and ensure they may grow up to be "normal" happy adults.

Afghanistan
All military authorities say we can not make a decision about troops in Afghanistan until the country has a verified elected
leader. Now it may be that a runoff election is needed due to election fraud or the 2 candidates must consent to co-leadership
(that won't work). It neither happens and we decide to withdraw our troops, the country will fall back to terrorist group
control.

Madera Unified School District Meeting
Madera Unified School Board Meeting 10/13/09
A few good things came up tonight:
1, Analysis
of the AYP score reports confirmed the district must focus on closing the Achievement Gap.
2. Madera teachers and principals were
encouraged to create local school site museums with themes, as decided by the students, staff and local history. This
could give Madera 20 new museums almost immediately and would boost school pride by the students.
3. Further research
on School Ambassadors Program pending. This program is currently active in Fresno. The main goal of this program is to decrease
suspensions and expulsions and make all students feel involved in school safety and climate.
4. Through joint use agreements,
Madera Unified may find extra uses for their facilities and may be able to rehire some recently laid off classified staff.
5. Public Health Department stole our allotment of regular flu vaccine because we lacked a medical refrigerator. The Public
Health people were storing the vaccine, but took it for their own use because we were storing it in their refrigerator.

Congress Continues Health Care Debates
With the help of Senator Olympia Snowe (Maine), the health care debate in Congress will continue through the end of the year. Unfortunately,
the Senate Finance Committee defeated two amendments to include the public option.
In the end, we hope Congress
will pass a fiscally responsible health care bill that includes a public option because it will help ensure we all
have access to quality, affordable health care.

PROSTITUTION, RAPE, ABDUCTION and HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Prostitution, rape, abduction and human trafficking can creep into any family
- look at the Elizabeth Smart story and the girl abducted on the way to school and found 18 years later. The bad economy can
cause adults to prey on children for income. Unfortunately, many of the predators hide as "mentally ill" when found.
The Central Valley needs a prevention and rehabilitation program to save girls and boys who become victims of child predators. If
found alive, most can become productive citizens.

BANKS HOARD OUR PUBLIC BAILOUT MONEY - INTEREST AND FINES INCREASE
Bank of America has cut small business loans made through the Small Business
Administration (SBA) 7(a) program - despite taking billions in taxpayer-funded bailouts meant to stimulate the economy. At
a time when the failure rate of small businesses has been on the rise, Bank of America has - and continues - to reduce the
amount it lends in SBA loans while increasing higher-interest credit card lending to small businesses and individuals. The
result is less capital to support struggling small businesses and boost the economy. Bank of America hoardes the money and
refuses to get our bailout money out into circulation to stimulate the economy.

PRESIDENT OBAMA WINS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE...WOW
All AmeriCANS can choose to
be PEACEKEEPERS. Peacekeeping has no boundaries - it is every race, every family member, every individual - making good choices
over and over again - a way of life.
I, as a mediator and arbitrator, am a "certified" peacekeeper, but anyone can choose
to be a peacekeeper. I am working to bring a peacekeeping program to the Madera schools
where I am a trustee.
I am elated that President Obama can accept the Nobel Peace Prize for
all past, current and future, foreign and domestic peacekeepers, including our military and veterans. He ran an inclusive
Presidential campaign and championed the message of peace for the future. Ending a war responsibly is not as easy as starting
a war.
Congratulations President Obama…we peacekeepers, and all AmeriCANS,
take pride in your work and efforts.
Loraine Goodwin, M.D., J.D.
Candidate
for Congress CD-19 2010
